Online threats – vishing scam

Beware of the vishing scam!
Vishing is a scam where scammers call you on the phone and pretend to be from a bank, an official company or even a government institution. The target? To get your personal details, bank card numbers or passwords!
Seniors are often targeted because scammers know they are more trusting and less used to online scams. Don’t be fooled – check who you are talking to before sharing any information! If you are unsure, put the phone down and call the official number of the company or institution you want to contact.
How to identify vishing?
An unknown caller requests immediate action or information.
The caller threatens to block your account or face legal consequences.
The call appears to be coming from an official number, but they are asking for information they already have.
Don’t be a victim! The Cyber Safe Senior project will give you practical tips on how to recognise and avoid vishing attacks. Our aim is for seniors to feel safe and confident when using the phone and the internet.
Stay safe and always check who you trust with your data.
