Online threats – love scams

Beware of Love Scams
Online romance can be meaningful, but some people misuse it to scam others. Here’s how to protect yourself:
Red Flags in Communication:
They profess love or strong feelings very quickly.
They avoid video calls or meeting in person with excuses.
They claim to be in a difficult situation and need money urgently (e.g., medical bills, travel expenses, or business troubles).
They may ask for gift cards, wire transfers, or even access to your bank accounts.
Often, they say they are from your country but currently “working abroad.”
How to Protect Yourself:
Be skeptical of relationships that progress too quickly or feel rushed.
Never send money, bank details, or personal information to someone you haven’t met in person.
Check for inconsistencies in their story or background, and don’t hesitate to verify their claims.
Talk to friends or family if you’re unsure—they may help you notice red flags.
Use reverse image searches on their profile pictures to check for duplicates or fake profiles.
If You Think You’ve Been Scammed:
Cease all contact with the scammer immediately.
Report the scam to the relevant platform and authorities.
Gather any proof of the scam (messages, transaction receipts, etc.) to help with any investigations.
Contact your bank to secure your financial accounts if needed.
Remember, true relationships don’t demand money or personal details. Stay cautious, and protect your heart and finances!
