Online threats – fake subscription scams

BEWARE OF FAKE SUBSCRIPTION SCAMS! 🔒
Have you recently received an email, SMS, or social media message about a “subscription” you don’t remember signing up for? Maybe the message says you’ll lose access to a service unless you pay immediately? 🚨 This is a common online scam, and seniors are often the main targets!
💬 How does the scam work?
Scammers send fake messages pretending to be from trusted services (like Netflix, Spotify, or Amazon). They use urgent language to pressure you into:
🔁 Renewing a subscription
🛡️ Updating your personal information
💳 Paying a “past due” amount
These messages often contain a link to a fake website designed to steal your personal or financial information.
👀 How to recognize a scam?
1️⃣ The message tries to scare you by saying, “Pay now or your account will be blocked.”
2️⃣ The sender’s email address or phone number looks strange or unfamiliar.
3️⃣ The link in the message leads to a website that doesn’t look official.
4️⃣ You don’t remember signing up for this subscription.
💡 What should you do?
✔️ Do not click on any links! If you already clicked, do not enter your personal details.
✔️ Contact the service provider directly through their official website or app to verify the message.
✔️ Share this information with your friends or family – scams often target seniors who may not be familiar with such tactics.
Important: Legitimate companies will never rush you into making payments or updating your information through unexpected messages. Stay alert and protect yourself from fraud! 🙌
