Online threats – e-mail spoofing

E-MIAL SPOOFING is a technique in which fraudsters alter the headers of emails to make them appear to have been sent from an address of a trusted source, such as a friend, boss or trusted institution. The messages look authentic, making them harder for recipients and anti-spam systems to detect.

Cybercriminals take over email accounts to, for example, distribute malware. The emails contain attachments that, when opened, install malware on the victim’s computer or may contain links leading to websites that automatically download and install malware on the computer.
