Online threats – Nigerian 419 scam
Beware of the Nigerian 419 scam!
Have you received an email from a stranger promising you a large sum of money in exchange for help with a wealth transfer? This is a classic Nigerian 419 scam, where scammers promise big profits but they are really trying to extort money or personal information from you.
Seniors are often targeted by these scams because fraudsters believe they are more susceptible to such promises. Beware! If something sounds too good to be true, it is definitely a scam.
How to spot a Nigerian scam?
1. Messages come from strangers promising you millions.
2. Scammers ask you to help them “transfer” money or give them your bank details.
3. They ask you to deposit a small amount first for “costs” or “fees”.
Don’t be fooled! Through Cyber Safe Senior project, you will learn more about how to identify these scams and how to protect your personal and financial data. Your online safety is our priority!
Never send money to strangers or share your personal details! Stay safe and be careful.
